Lake Titicaca is the highest largest volume of fresh navigable water in South America resting between the border of Peru and Bolivia. The height and reflection of this huge body of water give rise to its extremely bright luminosity and high UV radiation. This reflects in the traditional costume of the indigenous people of Uros floating islands, Taquile and Amantani.
Self sufficiency is key to living on these islands with small amounts of money made from tourism and trade. Tours and craft selling are an essential part of trade in regards to tourism. There is a peaceful awareness to the nature of the indigenous people of lake Titicaca despite the hardships that may be endured to survival on these islands. With little electricity and no motor vehicles (a horse being the local taxi) it is easy to enjoy the splendour of ‘Pacha Mama’ through the vast expansiveness of the lake and the reflective dome of the southern hemispheric starscape at night time with zero light pollution, a truly unforgettable experience.
